Natural healthcare
Since Ohli was born I have chosen not to give him any of the conventional childhood immunizations by injection. This isn’t something I have taken lightly, and I only made this choice after doing some thorough research into both sides of the discussion for and against immunization. I thought it may be of use to share a little of my investigating here.
I feel that like most parents I want to do whatever it is that is best for my child. I fully recognize and appreciate modern medicines and modern conventional doctors, and know they have a very valid place in our world. But I also know that like all of us they are not always right, and that the modern conventional way is not always the best way. I have a lot of faith in natural medicines, they have been used successfully throughout the ages and for me the practice of working with nature to restore our health makes perfect common sense - we are all connected as part of that nature after all.
I also feel very strongly that I don’t want to remain uneducated about my child’s health, and don’t want to put the sole responsibility for his health into somebody else’s hands. I feel that by researching and learning as much as I can from all angles, I will be better able to make a good and sound judgement on the right action to take when it comes to issues like this, like vaccinations. It feels irresponsible to be left in the dark and I feel that this is my job as a mother; to know how best to take care of my child, and to know who and where to turn to for help when needed.

So I started reading. One of the first things that became so apparent when looking into this was just how passionate people on both sides feel about this subject. I have met several parents and read stories from dozens more who firmly believe that immunizations are dangerous, the information about them misleading, and they choose to take no precautions for these diseases as the chances of adverse reaction or long term hidden damage to their children is far greater than the dangers of catching the diseases themselves. But I have also read and heard from dozens of other parents and doctors who firmly believe the opposite, that not immunizing your child is putting them in un-necessary risk, that it is dangerous, that these are all scare stories not based on truth, and that these illnesses are possibly even on the increase now due to less parents vaccinating. I trawled through websites and books from both sides, trying to distinguish the fact from the fiction, looking for reliable sources and genuine studies that could tell me the simple facts and statistics. (I have put some links to these books and resources here.)
After all this research I came to a conclusion that there was some genuine and reliable concerns regarding the safety, reliability and the effectiveness of conventional vaccines. (I won’t go so deeply into the ins and outs of that here, if you are interested please read through some of the links that I have shared or do some of your own research, as you may come to a different conclusion than I have. I’m definitely not saying to be an expert on this subject, only that from the research I have done this is the choice I have made that I feel is the safest for us.)
In brief, the main points I came to conclude were:
· That vaccines could possibly weaken his immune system, affecting his inner ability to cope with the illnesses he will come into contact throughout his life
· That there were some very unnatural and harmful substances contained within the vaccines. (This raised a strong internal and instinctual feeling within me that I have chosen to pay attention to)
· That the pharmaceutical companies that produce the vaccines are questionable and not to be trusted
· That there was sufficient evidence of both minor and serious adverse reactions to the vaccines, both short term and long term, and little evidence of any changes, response or recognition by the vaccine producers or governments to remedy this
· That the way vaccines work within the body and the internal stress that they cause- especially onto a small child- does not feel to me the most sound and effective way to maintain full wellness within that body.
This is a list of what we take and when. The medicines are meant to be taken over a course of two years, one remedy a month, and you can begin any time and at any age, and can speed up or slow down the process as suits you best.
As Ohli is being protected from the most common childhood diseases with homeopathic medicines, when we decided to come to Asia I researched the remedies that could be added to this to also cover the most common tropical diseases that are often immunized for. I thought to be prepared I made a list of all the illnesses, and made a small book covering causes, symptoms, the seriousness of the disease and all possible treatments and preventatives, both herbal and homeopathic, and also signs for when to seek professional medical help. I often found that several remedies were suggested for each illness, so I gathered together the medicines that I had seen recommended by several different sources and were shown to be the most reliable.
I have made a list of what I found below, but this list is still being added to as we learn more about local and natural medicines.
One thing; if I were to suggest this to anyone for a long trip- it is possible to have several homeopathic remedies combined together into a single pill, but it is not advised to take several remedies together if they are separate pills. I’m not sure exactly why this is or how this works, I would love to ask someone to find out. So as there are so many different remedies to take, it means that we (I also take the same medicines out here as Ohli as I’m not conventionally immunized for travel either) need to take a remedy every day, and two on one day. It seems like a very simple thing to do, but remembering every evening to take a medicine is quite a challenge for me so we always falling behind. When these pills run out I will be getting several combined together (with some good advice from my homeopath) so it will be much more practical for us.
Anyhow, this is how we do it.
